A Conceptual Portrait Photography Competition by =loganart and =satanic57





This is a portrait photography competition, with the theme being 'Escape / Freedom'. We want you to capture this idea, this emotion, and display it in the most powerful way possible, through the use of one of the most expressive mediums, the human body. The theme 'escape / freedom' is quite straight forward, but alternative interpretations are welcome.


As examples of this theme, we've selected several thumbs from fellow deviants conveying this emotion through a portrait:







-This is a PHOTOGRAPHY competition, so it is ideal that you try and achieve all or most of the effects you want on location using your camera. That is the challenge anyhow, to understand and utilise your tools to the fullest. However, post processing is allowed afterwards to a certain extent. Conversion to BW, sharpening, cropping, minor colour adjustments and such replicable techniques in a darkroom are allowed. More adjustments may be allowed if necessary, but photographs which look like they have been over-edited will not be included in the competition. Remember this is a photography competition and not a digital art competition.

-As stated many times, this is a conceptual portrait competition, so you must incorporate the theme into your photography with a part/form of the human body. Self portraits are welcome, ofcourse.

-The submitted photograph must be NEW, and taken after this competition has been opened. We will be checking the dates. We must remind you again, this is an opportunity to challenge yourself. By submitting a photograph you have already taken which fits the theme, you are only cheating yourself!

-Each deviant may submit one submission only. Please take time to review your photographs on this theme and choose your best one to submit!

-Collages/diptych's/triptych's are allowed! You can use that to show a kind of story if you want, it's up to you.

-Submissions should be no smaller than 350x350 pixels, Art is meant to be seen. It is also ideal to resize the photograph to a width of 850px or a height of 600px to minimise scrolling.

-Judges may enter submissions into this competition, but cannot (and will not, as we will make sure) vote for themselves during the voting process!

-Deadline is 8th June, 2006, which gives you one month, so get snappin!








The judging panel consists of seven judges,

Those judges (excluding us, =loganart and =satanic57) will choose ten of their favourites each, and according to the points system, this will determine the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th positions. The 1st and 2nd positions will be decided by us alone.








-After deciding on the photograph you want, submit it as you normally would, and (1) in the decription, you must put "This is taking part in the Escape / Freedom competition by =loganart and =satanic57". (2) Then you must note either one of us with the deviation so that we know it exists






No competition would be one without prizes of some sort! We have the following to offer :

1st Place : One Year subscription to deviantArt, and one print of choice (20x30) by =loganart or from =satanic57.
2nd Place : 3 Month subscription to deviantArt, and one print of choice (10x15) by either =loganart or =satanic57.
3rd Place : 1 Month subscription and one print of choice (8x10) by either =loganart or =satanic57
4th, 5th, 6th Place : A print by =loganart or =satanic57 of your choice (5x8).
